The curriculums of the different LPN programs vary slightly, but some of the most common LPN courses are present in all of them. You should definitely find out more about the nature of these courses. In this way, you will be able to evaluate how hard they are to complete.

Anatomy and physiology are the two LPN courses that you will study first. You will learn all about the different parts of the human body, about the different organs and systems, as part of the anatomy module. You will learn how they work, as part of the physiology module. Growth and development is another important introductory course. You will learn about the growth and development of the human body.Fundamentals of nursing are things you will learn as part of the other major introductory component of your program. In this section of the program, you will be taught how to give injections, how to dress wounds and how to monitor and record the vital signs of patients. You will have classes in patient safety and medical ethics as well. When studying the fundamentals of nursing, you will also have laboratory and clinical practice training. You will be shown how the different procedures are performed in real hospital setting.

Nutrition and diet therapy is another one of the main LPN courses you will take. You will learn what foods should be administered to patients and in what amounts. You will also learn how these foods are prepared. Pharmacology is another fundamental course. It introduces you to the different types of medications and their effects on the human body. You will also get additional training in the technical administration of different types of medication.

First aid and emergency medical technology are other LPN courses which are not fundamental, but are usually present in the curriculum. You will learn how to give first aid to patients. You will also learn the basics of emergency treatment, so that you can be prepared to work in emergency rooms and to aid paramedics.

There are three main types of nursing that are usually covered in all programs. These are medical-surgical nursing, maternal and child nursing and psychiatric nursing. You will be taught how to work in operation rooms, with pregnant women, small children and psychiatric patients. You will get an extensive amount of clinical practice as part of all of these three courses.
